Prof Tulio de Oliveira participates in the 2nd Nobel Symposium in Africa
The 2023 Nobel Symposium in Chemistry Tuberculosis and Antibiotic Resistance – From Basic Drug Discovery to Clinic was hosted at Stellenbosch University.
The symposium's central theme, "Tuberculosis and Antibiotic Resistance – From Basic Drug Discovery to Clinic," underscored the importance of this gathering in the global fight against tuberculosis.
In addition to participating in the symposium, CERI's Director, Prof. Tulio de Oliveira, welcomed the fellows, offering them a tour of the center's state-of-the-art labs located at the Biomedical Research Institute (BMRI), emphasizing the vital role CERI plays in advancing infectious diseases research.
The Nobel in Africa Fellows, as part of the 2023 Nobel Symposium in Chemistry, visited the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) at Stellenbosch University. While the entire Nobel Symposia series took place from October 23 to 27 at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS), CERI offered the fellows a unique tour of their state-of-the-art laboratories on Monday, October 23, 2023.
Nobel in Africa is a STIAS Initiative in partnership with Stellenbosch University, under the auspices of the Nobel Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences with funding from the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation. Notably, In 2022, STIAS became the first institution outside Scandinavia to host Nobel Symposia on behalf of the Nobel Foundation since the symposium series began in 1965, enhancing its global significance.
