I am a molecular and evolutionary biologist. My research interest lies in the study of evolutionary genomics of microorganisms. I am especially interested in the molecular dynamics driving genetic variation and evolution in pathogenic microorganisms. Amongst the various sources of genetic variation, I am particularly interested in the cumulative influence of genetic changes that drive changes between host and pathogen interactions. My specialities include genome sequencing and assembly, comparative genomics, quantitative trait analyses, epigenetic analyses, and phylogenetics. I completed my PhD at the Forestry Agricultural and Biotechnology Institute (FABI) at the University of Pretoria. I recently joined the team at the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) at the University of Stellenbosch as a postdoctoral researcher where I fucus on pathogen genomics and genome surveillance. |
