Stellenbosch University's Professor Tulio de Oliveira has been featured on Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in Health list, which honours "fresh discoveries, novel treatments, and global victories over disease" in the past year.
He was commended in the Pioneers category "for hunting viruses in Africa and beyond".
