The Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) at Stellenbosch University (SU) is now accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. This prestigious position focuses on developing pathways for successfully commercialising biotechnologies originating from university research in Africa.

Project Highlights: The fellowship aims to bridge the gap between academic innovation and the biotech industry. The selected candidate will contribute to establishing a biotech springboard lab, supporting startups and entrepreneurs, and promoting scalable solutions while ensuring compliance with SU laboratory and ISO standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating a biotech springboard lab to connect university-based startups with local and global industries.
  • Develop commercialisation strategies to transform university biotechnologies into market-ready solutions.
  • Design and implement scalable manufacturing processes for recombinant protein production.
  • Mentor and train early-career scientists, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Drive R&D and commercial activities in genetic engineering, heterologous expression systems, and protein purification.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemical Engineering, or related field (obtained within the last five years).
  • Experience in biotech commercialisation, patenting, IP management, and recombinant protein production.
  • Strong analytical skills, teaching/mentoring experience, and a solid publication record.
