Thato Phenyo is an African STARS fellow currently enrolled for MSc in Bioinformatics of Infectious Diseases at CERI, Stellenbosch University, also a Laboratory Scientist at the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership, specializing in molecular HIV research and viral genomics. She conducts PCR, ELISA, nucleic acid extraction and sequencing. She further analyzes genomic data for pathogens including HIV, HBV, measles and rubella. Her work focuses on HIV-1 subtype C capsid genotyping to monitor potential lenacapavir resistance. Passionate about bioinformatics and STEM mentorship, she contributes to public health research and youth capacity-building in Botswana.
